‘Arsenal engine is purring along as club record smashed’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Arsenal have “some way to go” despite recording club-record revenue last season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Gunners and owner Stan Kroenke will be aiming to match Real Madrid at the €1billion mark in the near future.
Football Insider revealed on 23 January Arsenal increased their overall revenue from £465million to a new club-record figure of £615million last season.
As per Deloitte Football Money League figures, the Premier League club recorded the seventh-highest revenues in Europe last term – up from 10th in the previous campaign.
Arsenal have challenged Man City for the English top-flight title in each of the last two seasons but are yet to make a splash in the Champions League under Mikel Arteta.
Football Insider revealed on 30 January that they have already banked around £75million in prize money after securing their place in the last 16 of the competition this month.
Arsenal will want to match Real Madrid’s €1billion revenue
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “These numbers show the Arsenal commercial engine is still purring along.
“Look, we know they’ve been criticised by the fans in terms of pricing – but that hasn’t really fertlilised itself into any great rebellion.
“Arsenal are very active and very well-managed.

“It’s a big increase, but they’ve got to keep going. They’ll be aiming for the billion euro mark, which has been set as the benchmark by Real Madrid.
“Arsenal will know that they have some way to go until they are where they want to be, and where Kroenke wants to be in terms of European football.”
