Arsenal fans going ‘overboard’ with William Saliba after latest – pundit

Arsenal fans have gone “overboard” in their praise for William Saliba.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Saliba, 21, has started Arsenal’s opening two games of the Premier League season after spending the last three campaigns out on loan.

After impressing against Crystal Palace on the opening day (5 August), the Frenchman put through his own net against Leicester on Saturday (13 August).

The Gunners won the game 4-2, maintaining their winning start to the season.

Wenham insists Arsenal fans may be overreacting to Saliba’s performances.

“Leicester, for me, are in disarray at the moment,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“To concede two goals against them at the moment shows they still have defensive frailties. They will be vulnerable at the back this season.

“On Saliba, there was talk from him that he was happy to stay in France rather than go back to Arsenal. But Arsenal have invested in this chap, it’s taken him three years to make his debut.

“I have seen a lot of Arsenal fans go overboard about his performance against Palace when he was essentially up against Jordan Ayew.

“He scored that own goal against Leicester as well so once again it seems like Arsenal fans going way too soon on something.”

They then host Fulham one week later (27 August).
