Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Petr Cech display v Chelsea

By Matt Farr

Veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech delivered a wretched display for Arsenal in the 3-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea on Saturday – and Gunners fans on Twitter were unimpressed.

The 34-year-old has been an ever-present member of Arsenal’s first-team since joining from Chelsea in 2015, and has been a crucial asset.

However, his performances this season have shown a decline in the goalkeeper’s ability to perform at the top level, and that was alarmingly clear on Saturday.

Cech’s criminal involvement for Chelsea’s third goal saw him clear the ball straight into the path of Cesc Fabregas, who gratefully accepted the gift and shot into an empty net.

Arsenal fans took to social media following the game to vent their frustrations at the overall performance, but also took the opportunity to call for Cech to be dropped.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Cech has kept just seven clean sheets from 24 appearances this season, and his latest display will give Arsene Wenger something to think about ahead of their next game with Hull.

David Ospina is the current deputy at the Emirates, but has been given a run in the side for the cup competitions – including the Champions League.

However, the Colombia international may now be handed the No.1 jersey in the Premier League, where he has made just four appearances in the last two seasons.
