Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Tottenham Europa League exit

By Harvey Byrne

Arsenal fans on Twitter were delighted once more as Tottenham were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday evening at the round of 32.

Spurs were placed in what many consider to be Europe’s lesser competition after being knocked out of the Champions League group stage earlier in the season.

Despite the extended fixture list given to teams, Mauricio Pochettino made his intentions clear by playing a strong team in both Belgium and Wembley.

However, it proved not to be enough as Tottenham lost 1-0 against Gent before losing 3-2 on aggregate on Thursday after only managing a 2-2 draw in the return leg.

Arsenal are also on the brink of elimination from Europe after a 5-1 defeat in their Champions League first leg match against Bayern Munich.

However, many fans on social media took great enjoyment from Tottenham being knocked out twice in Europe before them, while one even suggested they would even lose to their youth team in the elite competitions.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Despite Tottenham’s poor form in Europe they are still above Arsenal in the league on goal difference.

However, given Spurs haven’t finished above the Gunners for 21 years many are expecting Arsenal to come out victors once more, especially after last seasons dramatic finale.
