Arsenal fans rip into ‘powderpuff’ Leandro Trossard as his full stats emerge

Arsenal fans reacted all but unanimously to criticise a player’s latest performance against Man City in the Premier League.

Arsenal looked on course for defeat with just minutes to go against Man City until Gabriel Martinelli scored a stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a point.

Arteta had faced criticism for his starting line-up, after deciding to drop Eberechi Eze to start Leandro Trossard, and continue with a midfield three of Declan Rice, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi.

Erling Haaland had opened the score for Man City, continuing his lethal goalscoring form since the start of the season.

Although the side scored a late equaliser to salvage a draw, much of the post-match discussion among supporters centred around frustration with one of Arteta’s decisions.

Leandro Trossard struggles in rare Arsenal start

Trossard was given his first start of the season against Man City, but the Belgian didn’t take the opportunity of a rare start.

He registered zero shots on or off target, completed zero key passes and managed just two successful dribbles.

He becomes the fourth different option at left wing this season in just five matches, and Arteta’s latest decision failed to make an impact.

Despite Trossard being linked with a move away from Arsenal, the Belgian is understood to have agreed a deal with the Gunners.

However, the contract does not include an extension, but a pay rise to reflect his role in the squad, with the winger featuring in 51 games last term.

While it’s clear he plays an important role in the squad, the winger’s latest performance against Man City failed to impress, prompting criticism from supporters.

Arsenal supporters have been frustrated with Trossard previously, especially with the decision to offer him a new deal when funds could’ve been used to improve the squad.

Their frustrations were amplified after his recent display at the Emirates as the Belgian was eventually withdrawn, with his replacement Martinelli going on to score the decisive equaliser in stoppage time.

One fan reacted to his performance with: “Sell Trossard by January or else it will clearly show [the] board is not at all serious in winning…He is not at all good for an elite club” with another adding “Berta has to sell Merino and Release Trossard. It’s the only way. Deny Arteta access to these two”.
