Kieran Maguire: Arsenal generating ‘global exposure’ as new deal struck

Arsenal are still a globally attractive commercial proposition despite their relative lack of success on the pitch in recent years.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gunners’ renewed sponsorship deal with Konami.

Arsenal announced last Thursday (18 August) that they have signed a new deal with the Japanese video game company.

The firm are perhaps best known for producing the Pro Evolution Soccer series, which recently rebranded as eFootball.

Arsenal’s branding will continue to feature in the game, with players’ likenesses also captured by 3D scanning technology.

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification in 2021-22 and, while they have started brightly this season, they have now not played in Europe’s top competition for five seasons.

But Maguire explains that their appeal to sponsors has endured.

“Despite the relative lack of success in recent years, Arsenal are still globally acknowledged,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They maybe are not on the same level as Man United or Liverpool in this regard, but they are still a brand that attracts a lot of eyeballs.

“The Amazon documentary has had very good views and download figures and they have had a very good start to the season off the back of that.

“It’s been a while since they were in the Champions League now but I think things like this will be encouraging to them.

“This sort of deal is useful as it can complement the level of exposure that they are currently getting.
