Arsenal have amazing player ‘just like Firmino’ in their ranks after Campbell has spotted

Kevin Campbell has compared Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino in light of recent performances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton forward claimed Lacazette, 30, “is the glue” for Mikel Arteta’s side and does not get the plaudits he deserves.

Lacazette started Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City – his sixth consecutive Premier League start.

The French striker has taken over the captaincy duties since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the armband following a disciplinary breach last month.

Lacazette’s contract in north London expires at the end of June.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the striker’s future, Campbell said: “Lacazette has been outstanding in the last few games.

“He’s just like Firmino at Liverpool. He probably doesn’t get the goals he could or should but he is so essential to the way in which the team play.

“In my opinion, he is an unsung hero. You need to watch him closely for a few weeks to realise he is the glue for these young players. He knits it all together so well.

“He is performing like a true captain, he really is. There has been some great displays in recent weeks. Long may it continue.

“I know he only has six months left on his contract but he never shirks a challenge. He is always committed, unlike the previous captain. Lacazette is fully committed.”
