Kieran Maguire: Arsenal have struck new £180m deal as contract details analysed

Arsenal will likely pocket upwards of £180million over the course of their new kit deal with Adidas.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Gunners announced a six-year extension to the partnership last Friday (30 September).

The original deal with the German sportswear manufacturers was due to last until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

That arrangement, which followed on from a four-year relationship with Puma, was worth a reported £60million per season.

But Maguire suggests that the new package will be worth a basic £30-40million per season, topped up by performance-related bonuses.

“Arsenal have fallen behind the other members of the Big Six in terms of commercial income,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Also, I suspect any deal with Adidas will be skewed towards where they finish in the Premier League.

“With Man United, for example, they have a clause in the contract which reduces the fee by 25 per cent if they fail to qualify for the Champions League for two consecutive years.

“Arsenal’s total commercial income is £140m compared to Man City’s £271m and United’s £232m. I suspect therefore that Arsenal’s deal will be worth somewhere in the region of £30m to £40m.

“That is partly because if you go overseas you see a couple of Arsenal shirts but relatively few compared to United, Liverpool and Chelsea.”
