Arsenal idol makes bold Tomiyasu prediction after what he’s heard from two sources

Kevin Campbell is excited to see Takehiro Tomiyasu in an Arsenal shirt after what he’s heard about the defender.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker revealed two sources have told him that the 22-year-old is a “great defender” who is also “quick, strong and a good passer”.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of the Japan international on a long-term contract on deadline day.

It is understood Arsenal will pay £19.8million to Bologna for the defender who was of interest to rivals Spurs earlier in the window.

Campbell expects Tomiyasu to come straight into the starting XI to face Norwich City on September 11th.

“I like the signing,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Arsenal needed to sign a right-back. It was a gaping hole that needed to be filled.

“Tomiyasu might not be the big name the fans want but that is OK.

“It’s important now to get those Mikel Arteta’s signings into the team so we can see how they function. That is key. Without them you can see that the team is not strong enough to compete.

“I’ve spoke to a couple of sources about him and apparently he is a great defender. From what I’ve heard, he’s not a marauding right-back but he is quick, strong and a good passer. Now I will take that.

“He can play at centre-half as well which is a bonus. I expect him to come straight into the side, without a shadow of a doubt.”
