Kieran Maguire: Arsenal in ‘financial mess’ amid £213m reveal
Arsenal have lost £213million over the last three years and are in “a bit of a mess” financially.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gunners’ failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta’s side lost out to North London rivals Tottenham after the battle for the last top-four spot went down to the final day of the season last Sunday (22 May).
Arsenal have now not competed in the lucrative European competition since the 2016-17 campaign, and their revenue has suffered as a result.
Maguire explained how the absence of Champions League football will affect their financial outlook.
“It is going to make things difficult,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They are in a bit of a pincer position because their wage bill is higher than Spurs’ but is noticeably falling behind the other members of the big six.
“Revenue has fallen four years in a row. To have that in the Premier League indicates a club who financially are in a bit of a mess.
“This puts constraints over its ability to recruit to the level that fans would like.
“They have made losses of £213m in the last three years. There will be adjustments and Covid allowances to factor in from an FFP perspective. But it does show that their recruitment policy has not born fruit.”

Clubs receive a £13.2m fee for competing in the Champions League group stages, as well as a share of TV money and the Uefa coefficient pool.
Success in the competition can be worth as much as £150m in total.
