Arsenal news: Agbonlahor ‘annoyed’ as Gabriel Jesus picture emerges

Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus’ goal against Bournemouth should have stood.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa striker said players should be given the benefit of the doubt in situations where the margins are so fine.

The Gunners beat Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday (20 August).

As pictured by Sky Sports (20 August), Jesus, 25, thought he had scored a fourth for Mikel Arteta’s side but VAR ruled that the forward was in an offside position.

As shown on Sky Sports (22 August), there was a similar incident in Man United’s win over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Marcus Rashford put the home side 2-0 up after VAR adjudged the forward to have been played onside by Joe Gomez in what was a marginal call.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Charlotte Cohen for his assessment of the offside law in light of Jesus’ disallowed goal, Agbonlahor said: “I think they should definitely be given the benefit of the doubt.

“I feel that, when I look at Rashford’s goal on Monday night, he looked offside.

I feel like sometimes when they’re making the lines they look different every time you look at them. Rashford looked offside but the line made him look onside. Gabriel Jesus looked onside but the line made him look offside.

It’s just so annoying and I think that was definitely a Gabriel Jesus goal for me.
