Arsenal news: Pundit suggests Alexandre Lacazette to agree ‘massive’ deal with new club

Noel Whelan has tipped Alexandre Lacazette to snub a new Arsenal contract to seal a “massive payday” on a free transfer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 30-year-old has been in “excellent” form despite his uncertain future.

Lacazette, who has notched five goal contributions in his last six games, has worn the Arsenal armband since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s public fall-out with Mikel Arteta in December 2021.

However, the forward is out of contract at the end of this season.

According to TEAMtalk (16 March), AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lyon, West Ham, Aston Villa are all interested in the Frenchman.

Whelan suggested the 30-year-old can only earn a massive contract through a free transfer away from the Emirates Stadium.

“I think they’d rather put those wages and that investment into a player who is going to be a bit more prolific in front of goal,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“However, Lacazette has been excellent. Not just his performances but also his character, considering he is coming out of contract very soon.

“You can only give him great credit for leading by example. If they were to give him a contract then he’d deserve it.

But I think the player will be looking for that one last massive payday. This contract is more than likely going to be his last big contract.

“That will only come from a free transfer to another club.”
