Arsenal news: Campbell hails ‘genius’ Mikel Arteta after footage emerges

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for his “genius” on the touchline.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker claimed the 39-year-old regularly leaves his technical area to play ball boy for his side after Sunday’s win against Watford.

As per footage from Sky Sports last Sunday (6 March), Arteta played a key role in Arsenal’s third and decisive goal at Vicarage Road.

Arsenal’s manager left his technical area to quickly throw the ball to Bukayo Saka who started the attack which eventually led to Gabriel Martinelli’s goal.

As quoted by Football.London (6 March), Arteta recognised his hand in the 52nd minute strike and said he has happy to contribute in such a way.

When asked for his assessment of the incident, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “I just think he wanted to get the game going again.

“Finally, Arteta is seeing the team connect in an attacking sense.

“He realised and reacted. It was not as if the ball was miles down the touchline. He just went and got the ball and threw it back. They went on and scored which was great.

“He does that at the Emirates as well. It is just enthusiasm. He wants his team to attack. I mean what was it, a pre-pre-pre-assist?

“You know what, fair play to Arteta for getting the ball back quickly. That’s genius.”
