Arsenal news: Expert issues ‘incredible’ Kieran Tierney claim after transfer update

Kieran Tierney will have to emulate Roberto Carlos if he makes the move from Arsenal to Real Madrid.

That’s according to former Leeds United defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Scotland international’s future.

On Sunday (27 March), The Sunday Post reported Real Madrid are readying a £50million bid for Tierney, 24.

It is claimed Carlo Ancelotti has revived interest in the defender following a glowing report from Real’s chief scout, Juni Calafat.

It was also reported Ancelotti tried to sign Tierney when he was at Napoli but a deal could not be agreed.

Mills isn’t convinced Tierney could make the step up to Real Madrid due to the heavy expectation of the club’s fans.

“He’s been a bit in and out of the Arsenal team,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I’m not sure how much truth there is to that. He’s clearly a good player but stepping up to Real Madrid is a different level.

“In terms of scrutiny, the media, the pressure. When you look at some of the players who have gone there, you are expected to be a galactico straight away.

“You have to be Roberto Carlos. Real Madrid fans will demand him to be as good as Carlos.

“There is another level of expectancy. It would be an incredible move for him but whether it will happen, I’m not convinced.”

Tierney has made 22 appearances in the Premier League this season.

He’s scored one goal and chipped in with three assists.
