Arsenal news: Gunners tipped to ‘struggle’ after expert’s ‘worrying’ claim this week

Arsenal will struggle during the second half of the season after failing to sign a senior player during January.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after a busy January at The Emirates.

Arsenal let no fewer than six first-teamers depart during the January window, including former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, long-serving defender Calum Chambers, and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Tottenham insider and Football Insider pundit John Wenham told this site on Wednesday (2 February), Arsenal have hampered their own challenge for a top four spot thanks to their lack of signings.

Kenny insists a few injuries or suspensions could detail the Gunners’ season.

“This is the Premier League, it’s so demanding,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You are going to struggle with injuries and suspensions. We know that’s a problem under Arteta.

“Suspensions build up in the second half of the season as well. Having done so well, Arsenal could find it difficult.

“Covid is still around so a few injuries and they will be unable to field a team again.

“They seemed to have turned things around after a poor start to the season and all of that good work could be undone.

“They weren’t really linked with anyone either, it didn’t look like they would make a signing.

“That’s the big worry for me.”

Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League.

The Gunners sit just two points adrift of fourth-place Man United with a game in hand.
