Arsenal news: Pundit cites Thierry Henry after ‘brilliant’ thing he spotted

Noel Whelan has hailed Arsenal for their “absolutely brilliant” attacking display against Watford and hailed Martin Odegaard as a “joy to watch”.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Gunners’ performance harked back to the days of Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, and Thierry Henry.

Arsenal defeated Watford 3-2 on Sunday (6 March) thanks to stunning goals from Odegaard, 23, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli.

The victory puts Mikel Arteta’s side back into the top four at the expense of Man United, who have played three more games.

Whelan suggested Arteta will have been “delighted” with his sides’ potency in front of goal.

“It was taking it right back to the era of Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Thierry Henry – all those top players,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“When you think back to the amazing goals that Arsenal used to score with their one-touch play, Sunday was no different.

“It was absolutely brilliant and an absolute joy to watch from Odegaard, I thought was brilliant, Saka – again – superb. Alexandre Lacazette, again, gets praise for two really clever assists.

“Arteta must be delighted watching that, because it was taking Arsenal right back to their very best. I think anyone, even if you’re not an Arsenal supporter, could appreciate the goals they scored. All three could be in the top ten for goal of the month.”

Next, Arsenal face a Premier League double-header against Leicester (13 March) and Liverpool (16 March).
