Arsenal news: Pundit issues ‘incredible’ Aaron Ramsdale claim as footage emerges of stunned Brendan Rodgers

Noel Whelan has insisted “incredible” Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale must now be ahead of Jordan Pickford in the England pecking order.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old is playing at “the very top of his game”.

Ramsdale registered his 12th league clean sheet of the season yesterday (13 March) as Arsenal defeated Leicester 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

In footage posted on Twitter by Sky Sports, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers was seen mouthing the word “wow” as the former Bournemouth man made an acrobatic save to deny Harvey Barnes in the first half.

As quoted by the Daily Mail post-match, Rodgers insisted Ramsdale is “the best English ‘keeper at the moment”.

Whelan claimed the 23-year-old should be starting for the Three Lions.

“When you’re looking at consistency, you’ve got to say he’s ahead of Pickford in the England set-up,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“The saves he’s made, the distribution, the presence he’s had in that goal – it’s incredible.

“I’m not taking anything away from Pickford. He has had a difficult time this season behind that Everton defence. He’s also had to make a lot of top saves.

“But Ramsdale is at the very top of his game right now. Arsenal are sitting fourth, full of confidence – and he’s ticking every single box.

“With these friendlies coming up, he’s the one – out of everyone – who should be starting for England.”
