Arsenal news: Pundit names two ‘next level’ Granit Xhaka replacements after exit update

Kevin Campbell “would be happy” for Granit Xhaka to leave Arsenal this summer amid continued interest from AS Roma.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker urged Mikel Arteta’s side to replace the 29-year-old with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma or Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.

AS Roma showed strong interest in signing Xhaka last summer but a move broke down.

Football.London‘s Chris Wheatley claimed (22 February), Jose Mourinho’s side are expected to re-ignite their pursuit in the next window with a transfer “certainly possible”.

Xhaka’s contract at the Emirates runs until the summer of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Xhaka’s future, Campbell said: “I would be happy for him to leave.

“Xhaka is a good player and at this present moment, he is the best partner for Thomas Partey.

“We don’t have anyone more experienced in that position. Lokonga is a good player but he’s inexperienced. Elneny is someone who can do a job once in a blue moon but he’s not tried and tested. Xhaka is the best we have at the moment.

“I don’t mind him going if he’s replaced in the summer. There is talk of Tielemans and Bissouma. Now we’re talking. They are the level above. They would give Arsenal extra running power. It would allow us to bridge the gap to the bigger teams.

“If Xhaka went to Roma it would be a case of thank you and we move on.”
