Arsenal news: Pundit slams ’embarrassing’ Kai Havertz after what he spotted

Kai Havertz has “embarrassed” himself after his misses in the Arsenal pre-season tour of the US.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie claimed Havertz put himself in a lose-lose situation.

The 24-year-old took part in the MLS All-Star Cross and Volley Challenge during the Gunners’ pre-season tour of America.

The forward became the first player in history to not score a single goal in the mini competition.

Although making a mess of the challenge, the winger redeemed himself on the pitch, scoring a late goal in the 5-0 win over the MLS All-Star team on Thursday (20 July).

McAvennie couldn’t believe Havertz even attempted the challenge.

“Why would you want to do it in the first place with all that publicity on you,” he told Football Insider.

It is embarrassing that he missed every time but with footballers it is all about instinct. In a game he would maybe score them but with everyone watching him, he had too much time to think and he completely made a mess of it.

I would have laughed it off but it was a no-win situation for him.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Havertz last month (28 July).

The 24-year-old put pen to paper on a long-term deal at the Emirates after leaving London rivals Chelsea to link up with Mikel Arteta’s side.

Havertz made 139 appearances for the Blues and netted 32 goals across all competitions and is remembered fondly by Chelsea fans for his winner in the Champions League final against Man City in 2021.
