Arsenal news: ‘Selfish’ Aubameyang slammed as a ‘disgrace’ after what he’s now done to the club – pundit
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shown “a complete lack of respect” to Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal fans, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, branded the 32-year-old “disgraceful” after he “stuck the boot” into the Gunners once again on deadline day (31 January).
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano (1 February), Aubameyang is set to be unveiled as a Barcelona player after Arsenal agreed to terminate the Gabon star’s contract.
As reported by the Sun yesterday (31 January), the Gunners were left “surprised” after their former captain flew to Spain “without permission” to try and force a deal through.
Whelan suggested Aubameyang could well have ruined his Arsenal “legacy”.
“It’s a disgrace,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s shown the manager and the fans a complete lack of respect. He’s done a Peter Odemwingie by travelling to Barcelona without permission or a real agreement.
“That sums up everything that’s gone wrong for him in the past few months. Both at Arsenal and away at the African Cup of Nations.
“He’s shown a real selfish side. He’s only thinking about himself. Not his legacy at the club with who you have built this relationship.
“He has just stuck the boot in one last time by flying over there.”
The former Dortmund striker’s contract was set to expire next June.

Aubameyang has not featured for Arsenal since a disciplinary breach saw him stripped of the captaincy in December.
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are the only other striking options for the north London club.
