Arsenal player ratings v Chelsea: Wenger favourite is worst of the lot

By Matt Farr

Football Insider rates the Arsenal players during their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Petr Cech 3 – Shoulders some blame for opening goal, and disastrous influence for the third. Change needed.

Nacho Monreal 2 – The Arsene Wenger favourite could not get to grips with Eden Hazard. Outmuscled and outgunned.

Hector Bellerin 5 – Beaten in the air twice in build-up to Chelsea opener. Forced off with injury.

Laurent Koscielny 5 – Left exposed on counter-attack by midfield and full-backs. Never stood a chance

Shkodran Mustafi 5 – Similar to his central partner. Handled Costa well, but Pedro and Hazard ran riot.

Francis Coquelin 4 – Left on his backside by Hazard. Probably should have stayed there.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 4 – Had a lot to live up to coming into a different role, simply not going to be the answer in the long-term.

Alex Iwobi 5 – Offered little on the left-hand side. Somehow managed to play full 90 minutes.

Mesut Ozil 4 – Spent much of the game on the periphery. Desperately needs to rediscover his mojo.

Theo Walcott 5 – Did not contribute enough defensively. Should have tracked Alonso run for opener. Weak in attack.

Alexis Sanchez 5 – Isolated. Given few opportunities to run at Chelsea defence.

Subs:

Gabriel Paulista 3 (for Bellerin 17) – Should have drawn Arsenal level. Poor positioning defensively and slow to react.

Olivier Giroud 6 (for Coquelin 65) – A quiet game. Consolation goal, but nothing more.

Danny Welbeck 6 (for Walcott 70) – Showed more intent in his brief appearance than many of Arsenal’s players combined.

In other Arsenal news, fans reacted furiously on Twitter to Lucas Perez’s omission from the matchday squad.
