Arsenal player ratings v Manchester United: Weak link 5/10

By Dominic Toner

Football Insider rates the Arsenal players after their 2-0 victory against Manchester United in the Premier League.

Petr Cech 7 – Was relatively quiet during the game as United were set-up defensively. However, made two smart saves in the first-half from Anthony Martial and then Wayne Rooney.

Rob Holding 6 – The youngster was restored to the starting line-up and looked solid for the most-part, but nearly gifted United a goal with a poor back pass.

Laurent Koscielny 7 – Comfortable in the centre of the three-man defence and rarely tested by United’s quiet frontline. However, managed to put out any threats in the latter stages of the game and is their outstanding defender.

Nacho Monreal 6 – Looks solid since his switch to the centre and remains one of the hardest working players in the team.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 7 – He looks re-born in the right wing-back role and provides brilliant energy on the flank. Provided a brilliant assist with a whipped cross for Danny Welbeck’s header.

Aaron Ramsey 7 – Saw his effort well saved by David de Gea and was Arsenal’s most likely goalscorer in the first-half, just missing the end quality in front of goal.

Granit Xhaka 7 – Kept it simple in the middle of the park and was assured in possession. Opened the scoring with a long-range strike which took a fortunate deflection off Ander Herrera.

Kieran Gibbs 5 – The left wing-back is arguably the weak link in the line-up and lacked the quality going forward. He needs to be a lot better in attacking areas if he is to start as a wing-back.

Mesut Ozil 6 – The playmaker showed his class with some brilliant moments in possession and got the better of opposition Wayne Rooney.

Alexis Sanchez 6 – Missed out on the opportunity to dominate youngster Axel Tuanzebe on his United debut, but still showed some glimpses of real quality.

Danny Welbeck 7 – The forward scored the second goal of the game with an unstoppable header and worked tirelessly against his former club.

Francis Coquelin (for Xhaka 76mins) 6

Olivier Giroud (for Welbeck 84mins) 6

Hector Bellerin (Oxlade-Chamberlain 84mins) 6
