Arsenal news: Kieran Maguire issues £63m reveal after Stan Kroenke’s US plan emerges

Arsenal are not in the same league as Stan Kroenke’s Los Angeles Rams when it comes to their attractiveness as a business venture.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Rams’ Super Bowl triumph last Sunday (13 February).

Kroenke, who first bought into the NFL outfit in 1995 was the first to lift the trophy after the 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals at the SoFi Stadium in LA.

Per the Daily Mail on Wednesday (16 February), Kroenke will take Arsenal on a pre-season tour of the USA to capitalise on the Super Bowl success.

Maguire explained why Arsenal, who he reveals have lost £63million over the last eight years, will always come second to the Rams in Kroenke’s eyes.

“They’re not as attractive a business venture, no chance,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“There is no franchise model in football, so you have to compete by spending more money.

“Club owners in the NFL are protected by the salary cap. If you do have a couple of bad seasons, you’re also protected by the draft system.

“When you put both of those together, a far greater proportion of money in the NFL goes to owners compared to the Premier League.

“Over the last eight years, Arsenal have made an operating loss of £63m. They have managed to offset some of that with player sales, but even so…

“If you can’t generate profit in your day-to-day operations, that’s disturbing.

“This is indicative of the importance of Champions League participation, which would substantially impact on those figures.”

As relayed by The Telegraph on Tuesday (15 February), Kroenke’s son Josh admitted in a recent interview that he finds it “hard to truly” relate to fans.

Kroenke junior appears to have been charged with overseeing Arsenal as his father takes a back-seat role.
