Kieran Maguire: £488m reveal is a damning ‘indictment’ of Arsenal
Arsenal have a negative net spend of £488million over the last decade – a damning “indictment” of their recruitment policy.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest figures from CIES Football Observatory.
The report, which was published on Monday (7 February), showed that Arsenal have spent a total of £862m on transfer since 2012.
They have earned £374m in the same period, giving them a negative net spend of £488m, which is the fifth-highest in Europe.
The Gunners have won the FA Cup four times in the last decade, but other major trophies have alluded them.
They have also failed to qualify for the Champions League in each of the last five seasons.
Maguire slammed Arsenal’s “patchy” transfer record for failing to deliver success.
“There are some really intriguing numbers here,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“It highlights some of the underperformers in European football. Arsenal have got to be included in that.
“The gap between Arsenal and the likes of PSG, however, is substantial. That is one thing that should be noted.
“The Kroenkes can use this to prove they have invested on a quantitative basis.
“But on a qualitative basis, I think it’s an indictment of their recruitment policy, which has been patchy at best.“

Arsenal beat Wolves 1-0 yesterday (10 February) to go 5th in the league table.
They are next in action against Brentford next Saturday (19 February).
