Arsenal news: Medical expert issues ‘urgent’ Ben White claim after confirmed news

The “urgent” decision to pull Arsenal star Ben White out of the England squad for the upcoming Nations League quadruple-header was the right course of action.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

White, 24, did not miss a minute of Premier League football between September and April in 2021-22.

However, the centre-back played just once in the Gunners’ final five matches after picking up a hamstring problem.

He was named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming internationals, but England confirmed on Monday (30 May) that he would no longer report for duty.

White, who has played four times for his country, will now continue his rehab at Arsenal.

Dinnery insists that the right decision has been reached.

“He’s made the right choice,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Hamstring issues have very high recurrence rates, and we have a slightly quicker turnaround this season because of the World Cup in the winter.

“If he was to suffer a major setback, that could ultimately impact his pre-season and then stay with him for the rest of 2022-23.

You can understand why they think it’s urgent to get him back to the club. He’s not a guaranteed starter in that England squad, so maybe that came into play.

“But ultimately, you need to focus on the domestic side of your game. If you’re performing, Gareth Southgate will come knocking on your door again.”

White signed for the Gunners from Brighton in a £50million deal in July last year.

England will be without the defender for the clashes against Hungary, Germany, Italy, and Hungary again in the June international block.
