Arsenal stars told to shut it amid ‘massive’ claim – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed the time will come for Arsenal to have VAR decisions go their way.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the Gunners are still top of the league and winning games despite losing out on refereeing decisions.

The Gunners had two handball appeals in the game against Bournemouth on Saturday (4 March).

As shown on Sky Sports Ref Watch (6 March), ex-referee Dermot Gallagher said that Cherries defender Chris Mepham took a “massive risk” by jumping with his arms out but insisted Chris Kavanagh was right not to award a spot kick.

For the second penalty claim, Gallagher said that it was difficult to tell whether Phillip Billing intentionally handled the ball but insisted that if the referee and VAR say no, teams have to “accept” it.

Despite being 2-0 down in the second half of the match, Mikel Arteta’s side managed an impressive comeback to win the game 3-2, with Reiss Nelson scoring the winner in the final seconds of injury time.

When asked if Arsenal should feel hard done by with the amount of decisions that haven’t gone their way, Hutton told Football Insider:I think it evens itself out throughout the season.

Sometimes it is worse when you are down the bottom of the league and scrapping for every point. I know they [Arsenal] are as well but when the threat of relegation is there and things do not go your way it feels like it is not working out.

If certain decisions are not going in Arsenal’s favour at this moment in time, they are still at the top of the league, they are still winning games so it does not seem as bad. But it normally evens itself out.
