Arsenal tipped to complete two new signings as Aubameyang among star duo expected to quit – pundit
Noel Whelan has tipped Arsenal to sign two new strikers in 2022 after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s discipline breach.
The former Leeds forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 32-year-old, as well as Alexandre Lacazette, will want out of the Emirates Stadium in the new year.
Aubemeyang faces an uncertain future in north London after being cast out and stripped of the captaincy by Mikel Arteta.
The Independent claim (14 December) Barcelona could offer the Gabon international an exit route out of Arsenal in January.
The newspaper quote a source (17 December) as saying “the situation is much worse than people think” after a fourth rule breach.
With Lacazette out of contract next summer, Whelan suggested Arsenal may look to sign two strikers in the new year.
Asked if he thought Aubemeyang’s situation could see Lacazette sign a new contract, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’m not so sure.
“I think they’re looking to try and change the strikers around, I really do. I think Aubemeyang is looking to move and I think Lacazette is looking to move on a free contract.
“He’s at the age where this probably sets him up for life, a free contract.
“I think Mikel Arteta, what he’s done with the defence, the young blood that’s coming through the academy system, I think maybe they’re saving that money to bring in two strikers.
“I really do believe that. Really, I think Lacazette and Aubemeyang have got it in their minds. Arteta too, after what has happened with Aubameyang. I’m not sure there’s any way back.”

Aubameyang has scored seven goals in 15 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Lacazette has netted four times in the same number of games.
