Arsenal tipped to sign Premier League veteran in January after source’s striker reveal – pundit
Arsenal do not have a ready-made replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Eddie Nketiah.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider following Nketiah’s impressive performance this week.
Nketiah, 22, was handed a rare start and scored a hat-trick against Sunderland on Tuesday night in the quarter-final of the League Cup.
However, the striker has just six months left on his contract at the Emirates.
A source with knowledge of Nketiah’s situation has told Football Insider the striker has told the club he wants to leave after rejecting their offer of an extension.
Kenny claims even if Arsenal can get Nketiah to stay, he is no replacement for Aubameyang.
“It’s a difficult one, for me,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“No disrespect to Sunderland but they are a League One side. It was a game he was expected to do well in.
“Getting a hat-trick at home against anyone is an achievement, it’s still impressive.
“Can he do it week in week out in the Premier League? I don’t think so.
“If Arsenal are to get rid of Aubameyang they need to bring in an experienced operator.
“Someone who has scored goals in the Premier League before.
“No disrespect to Nketiah but I’m not sure he is that guy.”

Aubameyang was stripped of the Gunners captaincy last week (14 December).
The Athletic reported on 17 December the striker is training alone and away from the main group.
