Arsenal to pull the plug on Tim Steidten move – expert
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Arsenal will not be looking at a move for West Ham transfer guru Tim Steidten to replace Edu.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested such a move would be “rewarding failure”, while insisting the German will “carry the can” for the unsuccessful appointment of Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium.
According to The Telegraph (7 November), West Ham fear their technical director Tim Steidten could be in the running to replace Edu at Arsenal.
The Brazillian left the Emirates Stadium earlier this month to take up a lucrative role in Evangelos Marinakis’ multi-club organisation.
Steidten arrived at West Ham in July 2023 and endured a rocky relationship with ex-boss David Moyes last term.
He has also worked at Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.
Arsenal unlikely to move for Steidten, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Football’s always blamed for rewarding failure.
“I know Steidten had problems with Moyes, he won that battle. He was then responsible for the appointment of Lopetegui.
“He will carry that can.
“Maybe he could have a diminished role at Arsenal, where the executive team are a lot stronger.
“They would manage a lot of issues and keep him in a tighter box.

“Arsenal could be a route for him, but I think they’ll go in a different direction.
“I think Steidten won’t get that gig. But if Lopetegui has to go at West Ham, then he may have to go as well.”
