Arsenal told to sign Champions League winner after ‘huge development’ – pundit
Arsenal must recruit experienced players this summer as their youthful squad look to have blown all chances of finishing in the top-four.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about where the Gunners can improve.
Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United on Monday (16 May), handing Spurs the initiative in the race for the top four.
The result leaves the Gunners two points behind their city rivals, who travel to Norwich City on the final day of the season (22 May).
Arsenal also lost the game before Newcastle, 12 May’s North London derby against Tottenham.
After blowing a four-point lead over Spurs, Kenny insists Arsenal must recruit some experienced players in the summer.
“They need an experienced head in there,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Maybe one or two players who have been there and done it. I think that is what has let them down in these last few weeks.
“There were no calm heads on the pitch against Tottenham or Newcastle, they lost their cool completely which was disappointing and a huge development.
“In those moments you need a calm head to settle everything down and I don’t think Arsenal have that.
“If they are going to go one better next season and get into the top-four, that is exactly what I would do.
“Go out and sign someone who has won the big competitions, the Champions League. That will work.”

Arsenal face Everton on the final day of the season as they hope for Tottenham to slip up at Carrow Road.
The Toffees secured their Premier League status with a win over Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).
In other news, Arsenal have been handed a Champions League ‘lifeline’ after a Uefa ruling.
