Arsenal well placed to seize ‘opportunity’ and agree £10m signing
Arsenal are sitting top of the Premier League table following their strong performances in the first half of the season.
Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-1 on Tuesday (30 December), extending the gap to Unai Emery’s side, who sit third in the table, to six points.
Mikel Arteta was backed in the summer transfer window with multiple new signings, with the Gunners spending more than £250million.
Arsenal chiefs now have a decision to make over whether they are going to bring in any new faces in the January window.

Arsenal’s capacity to agree January signings revealed
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Arsenal could look to agree a £10m deal in January despite expectations it’s going to be a quiet window at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are missing some key players through injury, but Arteta does have a large squad at his disposal as he aims to bring the Premier League title to north London.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I think there’s some capacity. Given the size of the squad, they always have players around the fringes that they could trade.
“But I think it’s pretty clear that they’ll be very quiet. They’ve spent their money.
“Opportunistically, can they find a £10m player that they quite fancy just to see what happens? That wouldn’t surprise me.”

Arsenal have appointed Maurizio Micheli in a senior position within their recruitment team in recent weeks after he decided to leave Napoli.
Why Arsenal could be set for ‘very quiet’ January transfer window
Borson insisted Arsenal’s summer spending spree could impact their plans for the January window.
“I think generally you can expect them to be very quiet given the spending that they had in the summer,” said Borson.
“I think some of that was bringing forward some spending as well with players that maybe they wouldn’t ordinarily have signed.

“They have got a lot of injuries, but I think the squad is probably as big as you could realistically expect now. I think they’re going to deal with what they’ve got and see if it’s sufficient to win these trophies finally.”
Arsenal’s next fixture sees them take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday (3 January).
