Viktor Gyokeres could 'push' for Arsenal move as Premier League rival plot swoop

Published on:

Viktor Gyokeres could push to leave Arsenal in the coming transfer windows amid concerns about his dwindling role in the side.

The 28-year-old has struggled for minutes under Mikel Arteta so far this season, has started just three games, and has played just 80 minutes of Premier League football.

That has led to question marks about his future, and while he still has a part to play, he would be interested in playing every week in a side that suits his game better.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Gyokeres could join another Premier League club, as multiple have been keeping tabs on his situation.

While there are concerns about where the Sweden international fits in Mikel Arteta's plans, there is a feeling he would be better suited in a different style of play.

Gyokeres has proven he can score goals, even last season when he found the net 21 times across all competitions, and rival clubs believe he could still be a success in England.

Could Viktor Gyokeres push to leave Arsenal?

Football Insider revealed on 20 October that Gyokeres is giving serious thought to a move away from Arsenal next summer as a result of his recent lack of game time.

Kai Havertz remains the first-choice striker under Arteta, given his different skillset to his fellow centre-forward, and that has led to question marks over the position.

The Gunners will not allow the 28-year-old out the door during the upcoming January window, but with the striker considering his future, he could push for a move.

"Viktor Gyokeres is definitely going to be one to watch if he decides to leave Arsenal," Brown told Football Insider.

"I think he could push to leave in search of more playing time, because he's not going to be happy sitting on the bench, and that won't come as a surprise to anybody.

"The thing is, everybody knows at this stage that he is not a good fit for the way Mikel Arteta wants to play, but he's certainly not a bad player.

"He scored 21 goals in this Arsenal team last year, that's a good record, and he clearly is a very good goalscorer if he can get into the right position to finish chances.

"The way Arsenal play, everything is a slow build where every player has to be involved in the move, and that doesn't suit Gyokeres at all.

"He wants to be getting on to the end of chances, popping up in the box, running on to balls through the lines. He should be the finisher, not another creator.

"There are a number of Premier League teams who could actually do with a player like that and would be much better suited to his style, so I expect there will be some interest.

"If another Premier League club comes in with an offer for him, that would be something he is interested in, and it would make sense for all parties if he made that move."

Sources: Arsenal set Viktor Gyokeres asking price as interest builds

How much will Arsenal demand for Gyokeres?

While Gyokeres may be considering his long-term future at Arsenal, much will depend on whether or not the Gunners are prepared to see their striker leave.

Should offers arrive in January, they are expected to block his exit, but there have been suggestions that they could be more open to offers in next summer's window.

Football Insider revealed on 21 October that Arsenal will be looking to recoup all of the £55million they spent to bring him in from Sporting CP in 2025.

There is an internal feeling at the Emirates that their asking price would be reasonable, and that clubs could be encourages to make moves rather than deterred by the fee.

Sources say that Gyokeres' stock remains high in Europe, and several clubs from Italy, Spain and the Premier League would be keen to sign him if the chance arose.
