Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard reacts to Matz Sels’ message at Nottingham Forest

Matz Sels gained the attention of Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard as the Nottingham Forest took to social media with a new message.

The 33-year-old experienced an incredible campaign at the City Ground, sharing the Premier League Golden Glove award with David Raya, both boasting 13 clean sheets.

His saves helped lead the Reds to European qualification, securing a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League with a seventh-place finish in the Premier League table.

Many supporters have been left disheartened after Forest missed out on Champions League football, falling to a key defeat against Chelsea on the final day of the 2024/25 season.

However, Sels is remaining positive ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with plenty of football at the City Ground to look forward to, though there is a difficult summer transfer window ahead first.

Matz Sels grateful for Nottingham Forest support

Taking to Instagram (28 May), Sels wrote: “What a fantastic season! We made history together and shared unforgettable moments. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved as a team.

“Thank you for your unconditional support, game after game,” gaining likes from Neco Williams and Arsenal‘s Trossard. Ryan Yates also commented: “Top,” with a clapping emoji.

Nuno Espirito Santo and Morgan Gibbs-White exits threaten

Football Insider verdict

Despite doing an incredible job this season, Nuno Espirito Santo’s on-pitch clash with Evangelos Marinakis sparked rumours of a potential exit for the Portuguese manager.

The manager’s future is not the only worry ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, though, with Football Insider understanding that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of Man City.

With Ola Aina, Murillo, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Anthony Elanga all also linked with bigger moves, it could be a tough uphill battle of trying to keep the club’s best players this summer.

While the Reds will be playing in Europe next term, the blow of missing out on the Champions League could be made even bigger by some of the players’ ambitions for next season.

Sels, however, is likely to remain at the City Ground, with the 33-year-old cementing himself as the first choice between the sticks, with money unlikely to buy Forest a better replacement than the Belgian.

The majority of supporters will hope for Espirito Santo to remain in the job after such a brilliant season, and if he is, Marinakis must support him during the summer transfer window, whatever happens.
