Arteta is ‘worried’ about Arsenal replacing him with Vieira after what I’ve seen – pundit

Patrick Vieira could make a sensational return to Arsenal after an impressive start to life as a Premier League manager.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Spaniard’s future.

After a poor start to the season, the Gunners have recovered and now find themselves fourth in the Premier League.

However, they could lose this position if the teams below them win their games in hand.

Vieira, 45, took the job at Palace last summer (2021) and has his side sat in 11th place.

He has won plaudits for his side’s style and McAvennie claims Mikel Arteta will be worried about being replaced by Vieira as a result.

“We all thought he (Vieira) was going to be out for a jolly when he took the job in America (New York City FC),” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But he’s come in and there’s no coincidence he’s started doing well at Palace.

“Arsenal have stepped up too but Arteta must be worrying in case he gets his job soon.

“I said this when Palace went to Arsenal earlier this season. Arteta is doing well to be fair to him.

“But I like Patrick Vieira, I like his whole-hearted commitment, he’s doing well.

“If Arteta goes off the boil again, Arsenal know they can swoop in and get Vieira.”

Vieira made 406 appearances for Arsenal during his playing career.

He captained the side as they won the Premier League without losing a game in the 2003-04 season.
