‘Arthur Melo flopped at Liverpool, he will be even worse at Everton’

Everton have been urged not to attempt signing former Liverpool flop Arthur Melo during the January transfer window due to the potential risks of it not working out.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted that Everton “can’t afford luxury players in that team.”

The Merseyside giants have been linked with a move for the Juventus star after they had been monitoring him during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old returned to Juventus for this season after a loan spell at Fiorentina but has yet to play a single minute of football for the Serie A giants.

Melo suffered the same fate during his forgettable loan spell at Liverpool during the 2022-23 campaign, where he only played once for the club and didn’t get a minute of Premier League football.

Everton cannot afford to carry Arthur Melo if he doesn’t work out

“[I’m] not so sure as a type of player that would fit in immediately there,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Obviously [he] came to Liverpool on loan 22-23, 0 Premier League appearances the move didn’t really work out, on loan last year at Fiorentina, not working for him at Juventus

There’s obviously an opportunity to get the player, but whether he fits into that system at Everton.

“Can I see him? No, not really.

“22 caps for Brazil, he’s a good player, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think he’s a Premier League player.

“The Premier League is a different pace, and it didn’t work out for him at Liverpool for a reason.

Everton

“It would be a tougher ask for him to perform at a club like Everton where the style of play, how hard the team works, you can’t afford luxury players in that team.

“You can’t afford to carry a player who doesn’t perform every week, and I’m not sure he would.”
