Former Barnsley captain Hourihane moved south to the Midlands from the Yorkshire outfit after starring in the middle of the park, getting forward on a regular basis.
The 26-year-old scored six goals and laid on another 13 assists in just 28 games for the Tykes, but manages just one goal and three assists for Villa after moving in January.
Due to that lack of attacking form in claret and blue, Hourihane should be Bruce’s third choice next summer.
