Aston Villa backed to seal Gerard Deulofeu deal after source’s new update – Robinson

Paul Robinson has backed Aston Villa to sign Udinese winger Gerard Deulofeu if Unai Emery green lights the move.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Emery needs to be supported in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail (31 December), Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Deulofeu this month.

The ex-Everton and Watford forward has 18 months left on his contract in Italy.

Sources have told Football Insider (8 January) that Villa are confident of completing an attacking signing soon.

When asked by Football Insider if Deulofeu would be a welcome addition at Villa Park, Robinson said: “We have seen Gerard Deulofeu in the Premier League before and he was inconsistent.

“He had his moments.

“You can see the impact Unai Emery has already had at Villa. There is a big difference in the way they played.

“I think they have to trust his judgement in the transfer market. You have to let him shape that squad in the way that he wants.

“A manager of his quality knows what he needs to build a successful team. Do not tie his hands. Let him bring who he wants to bring in.

“If he wants to bring in a player of Deulofeu’s ilk then he should be allowed to.”
