Aston Villa backed to sign Lucas Digne rival in ‘£8million’ deal after report – Agbonlahor

Gabriel Agbonlahor has tipped Man United’s Brandon Williams to give Lucas Digne a “run for his money” if signed by Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Villa striker urged Steven Gerrard’s side to try and sign the Williams for around £8million this summer.

On 27 June, Birmingham Live reported that Villa could be open to signing the 21-year-old.

The left-back has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

Williams spent last season on loan with Norwich where he made 29 appearances.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “When I first saw him break onto the scene for Manchester United he looked like a left-back who was comfortable.

“He used his weaker foot as well and he can do a job as cover for Digne.

For me, that fee of £10million, he’s still a young player, I don’t see a problem with that and I think he will have respect for Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister, who were two top players.

He will want to try and break into that side and try and give Digne a run for his money. So for me, not a bad signing.

£10million, if they can get that down to maybe seven, eight million I think it’s not bad money spent on a young promising player.

In the 2020-21 season, Williams made 19 appearances for Man United across all competitions and provided one assist.

At Norwich last season, he played 29 games across all competitions.
