Aston Villa could agree ‘huge’ Matty Cash deal after ‘incredible’ news – expert

Aston Villa receiving £30million for Matty Cash would be “great” business – but a replacement will need to be found ahead of time.

That is the view of former Villa and Scotland defender Alan Hutton, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s future.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (14 June) that Aston Villa will accept an offer of £30million for Cash in the summer transfer window.

Sources say manager Unai Emery is searching the market for a new right-back, raising questions over the long-term future of the Poland international.

Cash’s stock has risen in recent years but was rotated with natural centre-back Ezri Konsa in the 2023-24 campaign.

The ex-Nottingham Forest star made 34 starts in 46 appearances last term, notching five goals and three assists.

Cash could join Douglas Luiz in leaving Villa for big money this summer with the club facing financial constraints.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it comes down to whether Aston Villa can get their top targets through the door.

“If there comes a time where Villa have negotiated with another right-back, he’s willing to come, fees have been agreed – then it’ll be a one in, one out situation.

“These windows can drag on.

“£30million would be a huge fee for him.

“This is a guy who wasn’t a right-back a few years ago, and he’s worked hard to turn himself into one.

“He’s now got the opportunity to go to AC Milan, it’s incredible.

“Sometimes a move suits you, and this one may well do. But Villa have first got to get another right-back lined up.

“We’ve got Konsa, but we need another option.”
