Aston Villa expert issues ‘dangerous’ Diego Carlos claim after latest

Alan Hutton has urged Aston Villa to be careful with Diego Carlos as he returns from injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa defender insisted the side won’t “rush him back” but said they are in need of his expertise in defence.

On 23 January, Villans boss Unai Emery told reporters that the centre-back is “getting better” but still faces “a month or two” before returning to the matchday squad.

Last week (2 February), injury expert Ben Dinnery told this site that the 29-year-old is ahead of schedule in his recovery and could return to the first team at the end of February.

The Brazilian only featured twice for the midlands club after his summer move before rupturing his achilles and has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines.

Hutton insisted the club won’t put him back in before he is ready.

He will come in to the squad and they will have to be very careful,” he told Football Insider.

It was a serious injury he went through and it has been a long lay-off since the start of the season. So I think they will have to manage his minutes accordingly just to throw him back in after something like that would be dangerous.

“The club will know that, they won’t want to risk it. He was their main signing in the summer and was going to be the go-to guy defensively to push them forward. I do not think they will rush him back.

But you look at the goals they conceded at the weekend and it was just basic mistakes and errors so it is something they are going to have to work on.
