Aston Villa expert shares ‘massive’ Morgan Rogers verdict

Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers will be a “massive asset” in the club’s long-term goals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Villa and Rangers defender Alan Hutton was blown away by the impact Rogers, 21, has made since his January move to the Birmingham giants.

The former Middlesbrough star joined the club last winter in a deal worth up to £16million and has started the last seven Premier League games under Unai Emery, bagging three goals and one assist.

He has scored in consecutive games against Bournemouth and Chelsea – notching Villa’s second against the latter in their 2-2 draw at Villa Park on Saturday (27 April).

Rogers admitted that he did not expect to earn so much game time so quickly and revealed that Emery no longer calls him a “Championship player”.

Hutton believes that the versatile forward has all the necessary attributes to thrive in the top flight and claimed he has the potential to be a star as he continues his exciting development at Villa.

“Rogers is coming on leaps and bounds,” he told Football Insider.

“With Jacob Ramsey’s injury, he’s really been thrust into the spotlight and he’s handled it really well.

“He looks confident, powerful, strong and he’s a good size for the Premier League.

“He fits into the style that Villa want to play perfectly.
