Aston Villa expert thrilled as new deal agreed – ‘of course it can work’
Alan Hutton is pleased Aston Villa owners V Sports have acquired 46 per cent of Portuguese club Vitoria SC.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa defender said it is evidence of the aims of the club moving forward.
On 14 February, the club confirmed that the holding company V Sports have entered into a sale and purchase agreement to acquire 46 per cent of Vitoria.
The Portuguese club are currently fifth in Liga Portugal and will become a sister club to Villa with a view to develop young players both in Portugal and at home in Birmingham.
Hutton is pleased with the club’s direction moving forward.
“I think it can be good, I think it can work both ways,” he told Football Insider.
“You look at the City Group and what they do, they have done it for a number of years now.
“Whether it is sending players out on loan or vice versa, if somebody is doing really well at Vitoria they can bring them in to the club and have a look at them. They are obviously looking to grow that network.

“I think that seems to be a phase that is coming into football at the moment. Of course it can work, we will have to wait and see if the relationships develop between the two clubs.
“I think it is a look into the future and what they are trying to do.“
