Aston Villa fans reacted all but unanimously to bid farewell to Boubacar Kamara following a significant update on his future.
Unai Emery’s side narrowly missed out on a Champions League spot last season, finishing level on points with Newcastle but falling short on goal difference after a final day defeat to Man United.
That result has added pressure behind the scenes, with former financial advisor Stefan Borson warning that Aston Villa may be forced to sell key players to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Several first-team regulars have already been linked with exits. Emiliano Martinez recently changed representation to super-agent Jorge Mendes, fuelling speculation over his future.
Now, Kamara appears to be another name on the potential departure list. With two years left on his current deal, fresh reports have emerged suggesting a summer move could be on the cards for the French midfielder.
Boubacar Kamara wants Champions League move amid Aston Villa uncertainty
Dahbia Hattabi of Foot Mercato reported on 11 June that Kamara “ideally wants to play Champions League football” next season, further fuelling speculation over his Aston Villa future.
However she also added that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are also admirers of the French midfielder and “highly value” his profile. With no new contract signed at Villa Park and no visible progress on negotiations, a move appears increasingly possible.
Reports in March suggested that Kamara would be offered fresh terms by Aston Villa but talks have seemingly stalled.
In the meantime, several clubs have expressed interest in Kamara, with uncertainty continuing to build around his situation.
The Frenchman was limited at times by injury during the 2024/25 campaign, but still managed to make 42 appearances. He often featured both in midfield and as part of the backline, playing a key role when available.

Kamara’s injury struggles have caused concern among Aston Villa supporters, especially after suffering a hamstring injury in February that sidelined him during a crucial period.
The 25-year-old also missed a significant part of the previous campaign due to a serious knee injury, only returning in the latter stages of 2024.
Despite being a key figure for Emery when fit, fans have begun to question whether a sale might be the best option for the club—particularly if Kamara is reluctant to commit to a new deal.
One supporter commented: “Players come and go. If it’s true, then take the money.” Another added: “Misses half the games and won’t sign a deal, move on.”
