Aston Villa fans over the moon after club clinch striker deal
By Matt Farr
Rushian Hepburn-Murphy has finally agreed to a new long-term deal with Aston Villa – and fans on Twitter are over the moon.
The 18-year-old striker had been exiled from the first-team squad by manager Steve Bruce after negotiations stalled, with the Aston Villa chief refusing to play him until he signed a new deal.
However, Hepburn-Murphy has now agreed a new three-and-a-half-year deal at the club that will keep him at Villa Park until 2020, ending a year-long contract saga.
The club announced the deal on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon.
The England U18 international is held in high regard by the Aston Villa fans, and they took to social media to voice their delight – and relief – that the deal has finally been completed.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Hepburn-Murphy made his first-team debut for Aston Villa in a Premier League clash with Sunderland in the 2014-15 season.
However, he has made just three appearancesn since, but could get his fair share of opportunities over the remainder of the current campaign, with Bruce’s side short of goalscoring options.
His last appearance was in the defeat to Cardiff on January 2, and he could make his return against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
In other Aston Villa news, the club have been hit by this double-blow ahead of Saturday’s Championship meeting with Forest.
