'Aston Villa fans should be delighted' as Gerrard set to complete four deals - Mills
Aston Villa fans should be “delighted” Steven Gerrard’s Rangers coaching staff have followed him down south.
That is the view of ex-Premier League and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa confirmed the appointment of Gerrard.
A club source told Football Insider yesterday (November 11) that he is set to be joined by his coaching assistants Gary McAllister and Michael Beale as well as head of performance Jordan Milsom and technical coach Tom Culshaw.
Beale confirmed on Instagram today (November 12) he had left Rangers.
“I’m not sure Gerrard is a big upgrade on Dean Smith,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“You’ve got a young manager who was a sensational player. It doesn’t always translate into management.

“He’s done a good job at Rangers. The first two seasons were OK and in the third season, he won the title and stopped Celtic. That’s also down to Celtic having a huge demise that season.
“I think it’s vitally important, and Villa fans should be delighted, his whole backroom team is coming.
“Michael Beale is a fantastic coach with a great reputation. Gary McAllister, part of that as well, he’s been there, seen it and done it at big clubs in the Premier League. There’s great experience coming with Steven Gerrard.
“He’s a stellar name, he’s ambitious with huge drive. But it’s still a bit of a gamble.”
Gerrard and his team spent three-and-a-half years at the Glasgow giants.
They won one trophy in that time – a historic 55th Scottish Premiership title last term.
In other news, the Aston Villa owners have told Gerrard there are ‘huge’ funds available in January after a £300m+ reveal.
