Whelan hails 'unbelievable' work behind the scenes at Aston Villa as Bailey news confirmed

The Aston Villa recruitment team deserve enormous acclaim for their work behind the scenes this summer.

So says ex-Premier League forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa announced the capture of Leon Bailey today (4th August).

This site first revealed on 2nd August that the Jamaican winger underwent a medical overseas and was set to sign for a £30million-plus fee.

The 23-year-old becomes Villa’s third signing of the summer after Emiliano Buendia and Ashley Young.

Whelan lauded the transfer team at Villa Park for their work so far and predicted there are more arrivals to come.

“You’ve got to give the recruitment team a lot of credit,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“They got the deals done and a lot of very talented players have come in. It’s unbelievable work they’ve done.

“They target them very quickly and they make sure that they get their man as early as possible.

“They know where the players are and they go after them. It’s as simple as that.

I think there will be more signings to come from Aston Villa if Grealish does end up leaving.

“They’ll use that money to recruit, whether that be in midfield or other areas.

“But they’ll be very, very clever with it. I’d be surprised if it all goes on the field.”

Football Insider revealed that Aston Villa have accepted a bid from Man City for Jack Grealish and that he will undergo a medical today.

The fee, £75m plus up to £25m in add-ons, is far lower than has been reported by various outlets.
