Aston Villa fans destroy January signing on Twitter
By Danny Wright
Aston Villa fans took to Twitter after the Championship game on Saturday to slate January signing Birkir Bjarnason after their defeat to Ipswich.
The Iceland international has only made three appearances for the club since signing from Swiss club Basel, but the fans have been quick to give their verdict on the midfielder.
Bjarnason was one of six of Villa’s January signings who started the game on Saturday, which they went on to lose 1-0 thanks to a late Emyr Huws winner.
Villa signed Bjarnason for a fee of £1.7million and will have struggled to settle into the team as he is yet to play back-to-back games in the same position.
His debut against Brentford saw him on the left side of a middle three, before being put on the wing in the match against Nottingham.
The 28-year-old was back into the middle three for Saturday’s defeat and according to WhoScored, Bjarnason only touched the ball 38 times, made zero successful dribbles and zero successful crosses.
Here is a selection of tweets from Villa fans about Bjarnason:
The Villa fans would have highlighted the Ipswich game as one that could put their season back on track as they are without a win since Boxing Day.
Mick McCarthy, who has had his fair share of critics this season, saw his side leapfrog Villa following the result for the first league win in a month.
Steve Bruce’s side are now just seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone.
