Aston Villa fans told to expect more ticket price rises – Stefan Borson

Aston Villa fans and supporters of top English clubs can expect more and more ticket price rises in the years to come.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the American ownership at Villa are likely “perplexed” about the outrage over admission prices.

The Villa Supporters Trust has branded the club “out of touch” for charging up to £97 a ticket for home Champions League matches this season.

They said: “Loyal Villa fans who’ve waited as long as 40 years to celebrate this momentous season are being punished and exploited at the expense of the Club’s compliance to PSR, ESR and publicly known revenue generation targets.”

Villa increased season ticket prices by 5% this term and also ripped out 900 season ticket seats to make way for new hospitality areas.

Borson claimed the United States’ huge sports ticket market has driven price increases in the UK.

He told Football Insider: “It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the American owners of Villa are perplexed at why people are up in arms.

“Of course these tickets are expensive, but they are by no means unique across football or in the premier competitions in any sport.

“We all know the situation with the Oasis ticket prices, and that’s just how the US has driven pricing.

“Unfortunately, I think British fans can start expecting more price rises – at the top end, at least.

“As much as we won’t like it, we can expect it.”
