Aston Villa fans will be absolutely livid at this reported McCormack excuse for skipping training
By Amir Mir
Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack could not turn up to training because of faulty gates at his mansion, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that manager Steve Bruce was left livid after the 30-year-old contacted the club earlier in the week saying he could not turn up to training because his gates at home wouldn’t open.
It is said Bruce challenged McCormack to jump over the fence and book a taxi to try and get to the club’s training ground, Bodymoor Heath.
But, McCormack reportedly responded by saying that he would try and fix the issue and turn up for training.
It is said that Bruce found out where McCormack lived and photographed the player’s 4ft 6in wall to prove that he could have left his house and turned up for work.
The story demonstrates how damaged the relationship is between experienced manager Bruce and the Scotsman, who was purchased by the Midlands club last summer for a then Championship record fee of £12million.
The lack of commitment from McCormack will also make Villa supporters, who watched their team sink into the Championship following a wretched Premier League campaign last season, absolutely livid.
McCormack did not feature in his side’s 2-2 draw against Preston on Saturday afternoon after Bruce confirmed that he left him out due to his fitness, attitude and time keeping.
The former Fulham man has struggled for form and consistency this season, scoring just three goals since his record switch.
