Aston Villa forced to sell homegrown trio due to PSR and Jacob Ramsey could be next – Sources
Jacob Ramsey could be the next homegrown Aston Villa star to be sold amid fears of breaching profit and sustainability requirements, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Ramsey could follow Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene and Aaron Ramsey as an academy star to be sacrificed to help balance the club’s books.
The Villans are on the fringes of their profit and sustainability requirements after they announced a £119.6milion loss in their end-of-year accounts earlier this month.
Now, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Unai Emery’s side could be forced to sell Ramsey, 22, before 30 June as his departure would register as pure profit on Villa’s books.
Aston Villa ace Jacob Ramsey next academy star to be sold?
It is believed that the club are not keen to depart with Ramsey, who joined the club aged six and has performed well this season despite frequent spells out injured.
The club claimed that they are operating within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability requirements, but sources told Football Insider that further player sales are expected.
Last summer, Villa sold Archer, 22, to Sheffield United for a reported £18million, Ramsey, 21, to Burnley for a reported £14million and Philogene, 22, to Hull City for a reported £5million.
However, they also spent heavily in the summer which has had a major impact on their losses, including Moussa Diaby’s reported £51.9million – a club record for an incoming player.

Aston Villa sit fourth in the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw against West Ham United on Sunday (17 March).
